Features
- Confined Space/Structural Collapse
- In confined space and structural collapse situations the Hand Vario provides a lightweight, compact and powerful system to help free victims. With 10,000 Lbs. of spreading force and 10 inches of spread, the Hand Vario is perfect for moving concrete, steel or timbers in order to remove trapped victims. With 50,000 Lbs. of cutting force the Hand Vario can be used to cut small diameter re-bar and other obstacles. Since the Hand Vario is manually operated, there is no danger when operating in a low oxygen environment. No carbon monoxide is produced, lessening the need for ventilation.
- Construction/Machinery Accidents
- On construction sites and industrial sites, the Hand Vario can be used to free victims caught in all types of machinery. Its compact and lightweight design make it easy to transport to the accident scene. Many farm accidents happen in fields where an ambulance or rescue truck can not be driven. Indoor industrial sites make it difficult to use a gasoline driven power unit. The Hand Vario solves these problems.
- The Hand Vario as a First Responder
- The First Responder Hand Vario is a self-contained forcible entry tool. Primarily designed as a first response tool for vehicle rescue, it is also a valuable resource for structural collapse and confined space rescue. The First Responder Hand Vario weighs only 22 lbs., making it easy to transport, yet has as much spreading and cutting force as most full size combination tools. The First Responder Hand Vario comes with a removable shoulder carrying strap and requires no set-up time to begin an extrication. For many extrications, the Hand Vario can finish the job before the heavy hydraulics can be taken off the truck.
- Vehicle Rescue
- The First Responder Hand Vario was designed for vehicle rescue. With 10,000 Lbs. of spreading force, it can be used to remove car doors, easily breaking door hinges and Nader pins. "Roof Flaps" are easy to do with the Hand Vario. Its long cutting blades allow it to cut through roof posts and make relief cuts. The First Responder Hand Vario has no engine to make noise, so communication between squad members is easier and patient agitation is reduced.
- The First Responder Hand Vario weighs only 22 lbs., nearly half that of heavy hydraulic combination tools. The ergonomic design of the Hand Vario makes it easy to handle and use, even by less experienced squad members.
- Fender Benders
- The First Responder Hand Vario can be used in minor fender benders by ambulance crews to open stuck doors. The compact size of the tool allows it to be stored in almost any compartment. Satellite stations equipped with the Hand Vario can reduce the need to "roll" heavy rescues on minor accidents and be able to do extrication with a small investment in equipment.
- Multi-Vehicle Accidents
- The First Responder Hand Vario can be used on multi-vehicle accidents to remove doors and roofs, and to make relief cuts for using rams. While the heavy hydraulic tools are tied up on more serious wrecked vehicles, the Hand Vario can be used to remove the doors of the minor wrecks. On more seriously wrecked vehicles the Hand Vario can be used to make purchase points and remove roofs allowing Paramedics access to victims waiting for other equipment to become available.
- Underwater Use
- The First Responder Hand Vario is a closed system and can be used underwater in rescue and salvage operations. The tool can be used totally submerge by divers to free victims from wreckage or other salvage operations. After use, the tool should be dried and the eternal mechanism lubricated.
